Can Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) earn more at home from their honest labors? There are now assistances from Govt.
For OFWs, the program “PEAK-Pinoy (Promoting
Entrepreneurship And Agribusiness To Filipinos In Korea)” launched 10 Oct 2021.
The info-caravan “Micro Agri-Kabuhayan Para Sa Balikbayan Program” held a
webinar on the same date.
PEAK-Pinoy is “the flagship program of the Philippine
Embassy in Seoul in the reintegration preparedness for Filipinos, a special
collaboration” of the Philippine Agriculture Office, Philippine Trade and
Investment Center, and Philippine Overseas Labor Office – Overseas Workers
Welfare Administration (POLO OWWA-Korea).
ANN says[1] (Author
Not Named, “DA, Phl Embassy In Seoul Hold First Int’l Launch Of ‘Agri-Kabuhayan’
Program,” DA.gov.ph):
To assist returning…
OFWs in starting their own businesses (back home), the Department of
Agriculture, through the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service
(DA-AMAS) in coordination with the Philippine Agriculture Office in Seoul,
launched “DA-DoLE Micro Agri-Kabuhayan Para Sa Balikbayan Program” in Korea (translation:
agri-livelihood for Balikbayans).
With 170 registered participants. Secretary of Agriculture William Dar said on the virtual launching
(I translated the first sentence from Tagalog):
We cannot neglect our
new heroes, most especially during this pandemic time. We created the Micro
Agri-Kabuhayan program to support OFWs, providing them alternative source(s) of
livelihood while promoting agriculture and agribusiness development in the (Philippines),
On his part, OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac invited OFWs and families to venture into
agribusiness, availing of the various assistances under the Agri-Kabuhayan
program.
ANN says that under the program:
OFWs will acquire
knowledge on starting and running their chosen businesses through training(s)
and seminars. (Also on) how to earn and sell the products.
The launching of Agri-Kabuhayan was participated in by
resource speakers from the DA, AMAS, Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), and
Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC), Landbank of the Philippines, and
OWWA, which said the packages of support “included training, assistance to
agri-production and processing, marketing, and financing support for aspiring
overseas Filipino agripreneurs.”
On her part:
Philippine Ambassador
to Korea Maria Theresa Dizon-De Vega
welcomed the participants and emphasized the “one-country-team support” and
unlimited services of the embassy to Filipinos in Korea particularly on their
aspiration of putting (up) their own (would-be) successful business back home.
Ms Maria Theresa also said (with my free translation):
With the leadership of
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the branches of our government such as the DA,
Department of Trade & Industry, DoLE and OWWA joined forces (for) overseas
Filipinos, (assisting them) in investing and engaging in business in the
country.
ANN says PEAK-Pinoy is “the flagship program of the
Philippine Embassy in Seoul” and is “a special collaboration” of the Philippine
Agriculture Office (PAO-Seoul), Philippine Trade and Investment Center
(PTIC-Seoul), and POLO OWWA-Korea. “It aims to introduce innovative and integrated
approach(es) to providing entrepreneurship and agribusiness seminars for
Filipinos in Korea that (are) customized to their needs. It … provides
important linkages between Philippine-based offices and Filipinos even while
they are still in Korea.”
Business
preparations while abroad? Excellent idea! Because, “Daig ng maagap ang masipag.”
