Andi Eigenmann Sharing Beauty – And Kitchen Refuse!

You are looking at Filipina media star Andi Eigenmann with her watermelon harvest in her vegetable garden in Siargao, a favorite tourist destination in the Visayas.

I’m looking at and loving Andi, former movie idol beauty, and I am in love – with the whole science, with her and with the watermelon she is with on that field of dreams, with coconut and other trees as silent witnesses.

From Wikipedia, I gather these of Andi[1]:

She was born 25 June 1990, a Filipina actress and model. Among other distinctions, in 2010, she was voted “Most Promising Young Star” for her role in Juicy! (TV5); in 2011, she was nominated “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” in the Studio 23 Barkada Choice Awards.

Siargao is a favorite tourist destination. I am not after me going to Siargao, or inviting any tourist to go there – this time, I’m inviting your attention to the proud achievement of an unlikely lady gardener who grew up in urban Metro Manila.

This is from Earwin Belen’s sharing on Facebook. The story is written by Maine Aquino dated 13 April 2020. “Andi Eigenmann Shares Update Of Growing Own Food[2].” She “proudly shared,” says Maine. Actually, it is “growing their own food” as she is with her live-in partner Philmar Alipayo. (A Catholic, I do not approve of live-in relationships, but I understand.)

Andi & Philmar had decided to grow their own food end of last month. “The couple had the perfect time to focus on the project due to the quarantine period.” Some blessings come in surprise packages.

Andi wrote in Instagram:

@chepoxz and I have always wanted to grow our food. And due to lockdown: he built a garden bed 2 weeks ago, that we filled with soil from pigsty, chunks and chunks of (carabao) (poop emoji) and all of this food waste.

The date of the story is 13 April, the 14th day after the groundbreaking and garden-making. Note all those materials that went into the organic garden: pig waste, carabao dung and kitchen refuse. The way Maine puts it, “Today, April 13, is the 14th day of the garden and Andi shared the impressive result of their hard work.” (No, Maine does not call it an organic garden, but it is.)

Maine says Andi's garden has tomatoes, pechay, watermelon, and pumpkin (squash) growing. Note: I do not see any pumpkin but watermelon, another lesson in journalism. And avocado is mentioned elsewhere, but the photographs don’t show any growing.

Maine says, “One of the things that Andi noticed in her garden was ampalaya or bitter gourd (that) she couldn't remember planting.” Andi said, "We didn't even know we threw ampalaya seeds!!!" It must have been wild ampalaya – and I love that harsh, deep bitter taste myself.

Garlic is also something they are looking forward to having in their garden.

Andi is now based in Siargao with Philmar and their baby, Lilo. She is growing her food and family. In these coronavirus and food-insecure times, there are no 2 greater secure things than those!@517
